Child Care Subsidy Program
The City of Henderson works in partnership with the
Las Vegas Urban League to assist parents who have
children attending Kids Zone, Safekey or Teen Scene.
The Urban League’s Child Care Subsidy program
provides subsidies for child care services to low-income
families with parents who are working, attending school
or training. The program operates in conjunction with
the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services to
improve the quality of child care and early childhood
development in Southern Nevada. To contact the Urban
League for information, call 702-473-9400.
The City of Henderson also works in partnership with
respite provided through the Desert Regional Center.
Contact the provider of this program for assistance at
It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to provide a
copy of the Child Care Subsidy certificate or respite
form to the city. Providing a copy of the certificate
does not automatically enroll the child. Children
must be registered prior to attending any of the city’s
child care programs, even if the subsidy provides 100
percent coverage. Registration must be completed at
the Youth Enrichment office, located at the City Hall
Annex, 280 S. Water St.
Child care subsidies are only applied to registered
service days on or after the day that a copy of the
child care certificate has been received by the
city, even if the “care authorized from” date on the
certificate is prior to the date received by the city.
Parents/guardians are financially responsible for
annual registration costs and any days or percentages
not covered by their current certificates. Maximum
reimbursement rates may not cover all program costs,
so parents will be charged the minimum difference at
the time of registration. The city accepts cash, checks,
money orders, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. Make
checks/money orders payable to City of Henderson.
As per our refund policy, credits/refunds/transfers
are not granted for missed days. In the event the
Urban League or Desert Regional Center denies the
City of Henderson’s claim for reimbursement, you are
financially responsible for the difference. Services
may be denied if a balance is placed on your account
or registration has not been completed. Most subsidy
programs do not cover the yearly registration charge
of $10 (applies to Safekey/Teen Scene), late charges
and costs for extended stay.
City of Henderson Financial
The City of Henderson offers financial assistance
to Henderson residents for parks and recreation
classes and programs. The Financial Assistance
Program provides qualifying Henderson residents the
opportunity to participate in more programs through a
subsidy. The Financial Assistance Program is available
only to Henderson residents who meet the current
guidelines of the State of Nevada income chart.
Henderson residents may seek financial assistance
for parks and recreation classes and programs
by applying for the Financial Assistance Program.
Applications are obtained online through the
cityofhenderson.com/FinAid and submitted electronically
along with the necessary documentation. Incomplete
applications will not be considered. It may take
up to 14 calendar days to receive a status on your
application. If approved, a staff member will contact
you with the award amount. The financial assistance
award is added to a FunCard to pay for program fees.
The participant is required to pay any remaining
balance of the program fee at the time of enrollment if
funds on the FunCard are depleted.
To be considered for financial assistance for City of
Henderson out of school care programs for children
under the age of 13; such as Safekey, Teen Scene,
Kids Zone, etc., patrons must first seek assistance
from other funding sources including Las Vegas Urban
League, Desert Regional Center or Inter-Tribal Council
of Nevada. The child care certificate or wait list letter
from these organizations must be included with the
Financial assistance recipients can register for
programs through the city’s online registration program
(cityofhenderson.com/register) or at any recreation
facility. Patrons using Urban League, respite or other
Child Care Development Fund assistance must register
in person at the Henderson City Hall Annex, 280 S.
Water St. (adjacent to City Hall).
