RISING TO THE CHALLENGE:
THE CITY OF HENDERSON RESPONDS TO COVID-19
For most of 2020, the City of Henderson’s leadership team
was faced with unprecedented challenges brought on by the
Coronavirus pandemic that simultaneously brought an alarming
health crisis and deep economic distress to our community.
This was a difficult time that called for swift action to ensure the
safety of our residents, employees and businesses. And thanks
to a decade of preparation and the creation of our Emergency
Operations Plan, Henderson was prepared early on to make a
series of tough, life-saving decisions that helped us meet this
Imagination, determination and resilience were the guiding
forces behind the incredible efforts carried out by our City staff.
From creating daycare centers within 24 hours for the children
of first responders who had no safe place to stay, to delivering
more than 1,196 bags of groceries to homebound seniors, to
ensuring the City’s public safety services and operations remained
uninterrupted by procuring personal protective equipment for our
brave frontline workers, our team worked tirelessly to ensure the
continued success of our premier community.
We believe our City’s successful response can serve as a useful
model for other municipalities and local governments facing
similar situations. That’s why we drafted the report entitled
“Lessons in Pandemic Preparedness: The City of Henderson’s
Disaster Response to the COVID-19 Crisis,” a detailed assessment
of Henderson’s pandemic action plan, which includes a critical
event timeline and key metrics that demonstrate the effectiveness
of our efforts.
It’s important to note that our team is continuing to meet the
extraordinary challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
On behalf of our grateful community, we want to take this
opportunity to express our gratitude for their outstanding
contributions to Henderson’s recovery.
As Henderson continues working to mitigate the effects of this
global pandemic on our City, we are filled with renewed hope that
the Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines
now being distributed throughout the country will bring us closer
to the end of this unprecedented emergency and give us the
courage to keep moving together toward much better days. T
